Woodway’s officers are firefighters too

Woodway is unusual. Rather than separate police and fire departments it runs a Public Safety Department at 920 Estates Drive, where every sworn officer is cross-trained as both a police officer and a firefighter — one of only a handful of departments in Texas organised that way.

They work the city; the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office and DPS cover the county roads around it. Wherever the arrest is made, a bondable charge is booked into the McLennan County Detention Center on East Highway 6 in Waco.

Court and bonds are in different buildings

Woodway Municipal Court also operates out of the Public Safety building on Estates Drive, with judge sessions held weekly. Its jurisdiction is Class C misdemeanors and citations, settled directly with the court.
