What a China Spring arrest looks like

01

Arrest and transport

Police in China Spring, the McLennan County Sheriff and DPS all transport to the same detention center on East Highway 6 in Waco.

02

Booking

Fingerprints, photograph and property intake. This is where most of the waiting happens, and it is the stage nobody can shorten — including us.

03

Bail is set

Misdemeanors often follow a bail schedule and are known immediately. Felonies are set at magistration, usually within 24 hours of booking.

04

We post the bond

Once the amount is on the record and the agreement is signed, we file. Release then depends on the jail working through its queue.

Unincorporated, so the county polices it

China Spring is a census-designated place about twelve miles north-west of Waco on Farm-to-Market Road 1637. It is not an incorporated city, which means it has no police department and no municipal court of its own — patrol is the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office, with DPS on the highways.

That also means there is no local court to settle a citation with: everything, including tickets, goes through the county. A bondable charge is booked into the McLennan County Detention Center on East Highway 6 in Waco.

An old community with a long name

The area was settled from around 1860 and the community was founded in 1867, named for a spring in a grove of chinaberry trees. Today most people know it by the school district, which draws from a wide stretch of north-west McLennan County.

For a felony or a Class A or B misdemeanor, we file within 30–45 minutes of the agreement being signed. Call and we will confirm where someone is being held before you drive into Waco.
