What a Crawford arrest looks like

01

Arrest and transport

Police in Crawford, the McLennan County Sheriff and DPS all transport to the same detention center on East Highway 6 in Waco.

02

Booking

Fingerprints, photograph and property intake. This is where most of the waiting happens, and it is the stage nobody can shorten — including us.

03

Bail is set

Misdemeanors often follow a bail schedule and are known immediately. Felonies are set at magistration, usually within 24 hours of booking.

04

We post the bond

Once the amount is on the record and the agreement is signed, we file. Release then depends on the jail working through its queue.

Who makes the arrest in Crawford

Crawford is a small town in western McLennan County with its own police department on North Lone Star Parkway. The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office covers the surrounding countryside, which is most of the area — the town itself is compact and the land around it is not.

A bondable charge goes to the McLennan County Detention Center on East Highway 6 in Waco, out on the far side of Waco. Crawford is one of the longer drives in the county, so it is worth confirming someone has actually been booked before setting off. Give us the name and date of birth and we will check.

The ranch is outside the city limits

Crawford is best known for Prairie Chapel Ranch, about seven miles north-west of town, which served as the Western White House during George W. Bush’s presidency. The ranch itself sits in unincorporated McLennan County rather than inside Crawford, so that ground is the Sheriff’s Office, not the city police.

Either way the bond is posted at the same place. Crawford’s municipal court handles Class C citations, which we do not bond; anything above that is a county matter and ours.
