What a Hewitt arrest looks like

01

Arrest and transport

Police in Hewitt, the McLennan County Sheriff and DPS all transport to the same detention center on East Highway 6 in Waco.

02

Booking

Fingerprints, photograph and property intake. This is where most of the waiting happens, and it is the stage nobody can shorten — including us.

03

Bail is set

Misdemeanors often follow a bail schedule and are known immediately. Felonies are set at magistration, usually within 24 hours of booking.

04

We post the bond

Once the amount is on the record and the agreement is signed, we file. Release then depends on the jail working through its queue.

Who makes the arrest in Hewitt

Hewitt has its own police department at 100 Patriot Court, with City Hall and the municipal court next door at 200 Patriot Court. Arrests inside the city are usually made by Hewitt officers; the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety cover the county roads and the interstate.

There is no jail in Hewitt. Everyone arrested on a bondable charge in McLennan County is booked into the McLennan County Detention Center on East Highway 6 in Waco, the only facility in the county where bonds are posted.

What the court on Patriot Court actually covers

Hewitt Municipal Court settles violations filed by the police department, animal control, code enforcement and the fire marshal. That is Class C territory — citations, resolved with the court that issued them, with no bondsman involved.

A felony or a Class A or B misdemeanor is a different matter and a different building. Those go to the county, we file within 30–45 minutes of the agreement being signed, and release after that runs on the jail’s own queue. If you are not sure which kind of charge you have, call and describe it.
