What a Waco arrest looks like

01

Arrest and transport

Police in Waco, the McLennan County Sheriff and DPS all transport to the same detention center on East Highway 6 in Waco.

02

Booking

Fingerprints, photograph and property intake. This is where most of the waiting happens, and it is the stage nobody can shorten — including us.

03

Bail is set

Misdemeanors often follow a bail schedule and are known immediately. Felonies are set at magistration, usually within 24 hours of booking.

04

We post the bond

Once the amount is on the record and the agreement is signed, we file. Release then depends on the jail working through its queue.

Waco is where every county bond is posted

Waco is the McLennan County seat, and the McLennan County Detention Center on East Highway 6 is the only facility in the county that accepts bonds. Whether the arrest happened in Waco, in Hewitt, in West or on a county road, that is where the bond is filed and where release takes place.

Waco Police work the city; the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office covers unincorporated areas and the Department of Public Safety covers Interstate 35 and the highways. The agency changes, the destination does not.

Our office is four minutes from that door

We work from 700 E Waco Dr B, a few minutes from the detention center. That is why we file fast: a bondsman can be at the window rather than scheduling a trip across the county.

The Jack Harwell Detention Center next door holds federal and immigration detainees and county overflow. County bonds are not posted there, which is a common and expensive confusion. If you are not sure where someone is being held, give us the name and date of birth and we will find them before you drive anywhere.
