What a Bellmead arrest looks like

01

Arrest and transport

Police in Bellmead, the McLennan County Sheriff and DPS all transport to the same detention center on East Highway 6 in Waco.

02

Booking

Fingerprints, photograph and property intake. This is where most of the waiting happens, and it is the stage nobody can shorten — including us.

03

Bail is set

Misdemeanors often follow a bail schedule and are known immediately. Felonies are set at magistration, usually within 24 hours of booking.

04

We post the bond

Once the amount is on the record and the agreement is signed, we file. Release then depends on the jail working through its queue.

Who makes the arrest in Bellmead

Bellmead runs its own police department from 701 Maxfield Street. Arrests inside the city are usually made by Bellmead officers, with the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office and DPS covering the county roads and Interstate 35 either side of town.

Bellmead sits close to the detention center, which is north-east of Waco on East Highway 6 — so the trip from arrest to booking is a short one. That does not speed up booking itself, which is the stage that takes the longest and the one nobody can shorten.

The municipal court on Bellmead Drive handles tickets, not bonds

Bellmead Municipal Court business is handled at City Hall, 3015 Bellmead Drive. It deals with Class C misdemeanors and citations, which are resolved with the court directly.

A bondable charge is a different matter and a different building: it is filed at the McLennan County Detention Center on East Highway 6 in Waco. We write bonds for felonies and for Class A and B misdemeanors. Our smallest bond is $1,000, and we do not write traffic or Class C bonds.
